Please join the Sandia Collaborative members for our April 2021 virtual meeting via Zoom. The meeting agenda is available at this link. Links to pertinent documents and web resources are also included below.

The La Madera project area is all of the Sandia Ranger District north of I-40. The Sandia Ranger District is looking for public input on actions to take on this landscape. Our group, the Sandia Collaborative, is working on an independent but parallel effort to identify ways to improve the way the forest is used, how wildlife, vegetation and cultural resources can be protected, and how to reduce wild fire risk in the area. The Sandia Collaborative will work with all participating groups to identify our common objectives and desired actions and come to agreement on recommendations to make to the Sandia Ranger District. We will present our comments to the Forest Service as they put together their plan for the La Madera Project.

At this meeting Crystal Powell, Sandia District Ranger will give a status update of the Sandia Trails Improvement Project and the Mountain Coaster Proposal. This will be followed up by a Q&A session. Chuck Schultz, NM Game & Fish Wildlife Biologist, will give updates on his presentation.

Teams of Collaborative members and participants have been meeting around 6 geographic focal areas within the Sandia Mountains to identify ways to improve the management of the forest, wildlife, vegetation and cultural and recreational resources of the Sandia Mountains and how to reduce wildfire risk . The team’s will report out on their last meeting. Meeting participants will have an opportunity to ask questions and provide feedback.
