The Sandia Collaborative will continue its work identifying ways to improve the management of the forest, wildlife, vegetation and cultural and recreational resources of the Sandia Mountains and how to reduce wildfire risk in six areas of the La Madera Project. The intent is to identify and come to agreement on recommendations to make to the US Forest Service by October 2021.

This month, George Duda, retired forester, will speak about the health of our forest in the Sandia Ranger District. George obtained a Bachelor of Science in Forest Management from Northern Arizona University in 1968. At the Cibola National Forest Mountainair Ranger District he provided recreation and forest management for a year and a half. George spent 27 years at the NM Forestry Division as Timber Management Officer, NM Forest Re-Leaf Coordinator and State Urban Forester. George serves on the Board of Directors for Think Trees New Mexico and has lectured widely, presenting “Trees Are Killing Our Forests”.
